5 Tricks to get your kids to eat healthier

5 Tricks to get your kids to eat healthier

Children, especially when they are still little, are both our greatest joy and our greatest concern. We worry about everything - from their fine motor skills to their eating habits. We try to teach them to live naturally and eat healthily. Not because it is trendy at the moment, but because the food selection available today increasingly lacks real nutritional value at the expense of the huge amount of stabilizers and artificial flavoring.

However, in no way should we stop striving to teach our children what it really means to eat better so that they feel healthier and more energetic. It has been scientifically proven that nutrition and psychological well-being are closely linked, so if you want happy children, be sure to teach them to eat and live healthily.

Here are our 5 tricks that will help you and especially your children to discover the joy of delicious and healthy food:

Shop together

Make shopping a fun game with the children. Compare the different ingredients on the packaging of similar products. Choose together those that are more useful. Ask the children for "expert opinion". There is nothing more valuable than them making the decisions because that makes them feel really good for themselves and proud.

When you go through the fruit and vegetable stands, compare colors and shapes, let the children touch the products, tell them what can be prepared with them and in what season they grow. Children love the exciting information presented. So do not hesitate to borrow stories from books, in which fruits and vegetables are favorite characters, and you can easily raise them to the rank of superheroes. Try to convey to young family members with a smile the knowledge that it is important what exactly we eat and how good is the "fuel" with which we feed our bodies.

Cook together

Children love to cook from an early age, especially if given the opportunity. Whether you have a boy or a girl, you know that there are no more favorite toys than kitchens and their accessories. But this is not enough for great research minds. They want to be in the "center of events" - to mix pancakes with you, break eggs, arrange a plate and decorate the table.

Don't take this fun away from them, although be mindful - these experiments come at a price. Regularly a playful egg might fall on the floor or the countertop might get sticky with honey. Therefore, always keep some cleaning supplies at hand. Advise you to look for recipes that are suitable for joint preparation by parents and children. There are wonderful raw cakes that are also (almost) safe to prepare and are really very, very tasty and useful. And certainly the little chefs will not forget to try the food they have cooked.

Eat together

We know that life is very dynamic, but if we want to make sure that we teach children to eat healthily, we must also set a good example for them. That's why it's important to sit at the table together, at least for dinner, when we're all home. Always try to offer homemade soups, fresh salads and desserts made with lots of fruit and a little sugar. There is no way you can try to encourage children to eat healthy foods if you eat pastries every hour and if you prefer a plate of french fries topped for dinner rather than grilled or steamed food. But if they see that useful and healthy products are present in your dishes, they will spontaneously prefer to eat your way.

Teach your children that the festive gatherings around the table will leave a lasting and precious memory in them, and these sweet traditions will be passed down from generation to generation. But of course, nothing should happen at all costs - invite your children with a smile, not threats or bribes.

Turn every meal into a celebration

Kids love to feel special. So do not forget to choose the right utensils for them - age-appropriate, of course. If they are smaller, buy them a silicone set of bowl, plate and cup, as well as a set of spoon, knife and fork with cute motifs. It is important that the atmosphere for children is inviting and friendly so that they can sit at a positive attitude at the table. Try to decorate the plate in a fun and quirky way, that can also lead to playful photos. You can always add eyes, mouth and hair to the omelet, sandwich or pancake. So you can easily also add to the children's menu fruit or vegetables that they do not particularly like. Because children often put labels like "tasty" and "tasteless" without actually trying anything.

And another idea - choose together a beautiful food box in which to prepare a light snack for the playground, garden or school. In it you can put beautifully chopped fruits and vegetables.

Grow your own food

To love healthy food, children need to know how and where it is grown. If you are lucky enough to have a large yard, you can grow strawberries or raspberries there. There is no greater pleasure for children than to collect fragrant fruits in baskets and then eat them as a reward. If you live in an apartment, do not miss the opportunity to go to the villa, the village or to visit friends who have a house with a yard. Help the children water the vegetables in the yard or pick those that are already ripe and ready for the table. And if you do not have this opportunity, put pots of aromatic spices on the balcony and take care of them.
